Joshua Brookshire: Head Coach / QB’s

Coach Brookshire is entering his fifth season at Issaquah High School. Prior to coming to Issaquah he was a Defensive Backs Coach at The College of Idaho, where he also attended, receiving a BS in Math and Physics. Along with Coaching Football and Track, Coach Brookshire teaches Physics and Leadership at Issaquah High. He and his wife Kaitlin have two sons, Aeden and William.

 

Reese Cloyd: Defensive Coordinator / Safeties

Coach Reese graduated from Tahoma High School in 2008 and was a 3-year letterman as a defensive back. Coach Reese then continued his education and graduated from Washington State University in 2012, with a Bachelor of Science with emphasis on economics. Coach Reese will be entering his 9th season as a football coach at Issaquah High School. Prior to becoming the Defensive Coordinator, he was the Defensive Backs Coach as well as the Head JV Coach. The best memory he has as a coach for Issaquah has to be the defeating Skyline in 2019 (AKA: the thunderstorm game). Going forward he is excited to continue the growth of the program and see how far this group can go.  

 

Mickey Ahrens: Co-Defensive Coordinator / Linebackers

Coach Ahrens enters his third season coaching at Issaquah High and second on defense. Coach Ahrens grew up and played high school football locally. He comes to the program with a multitude of successful experiences coaching at different levels of high school and college football in Western Washington. He, his Wife Brie (IHS Alumni) and their family are heavily invested in the Issaquah community and Issaquah athletics. He is excited to see the steps our Eagle Family takes this year!

 

Jeremy Kiefer: Special Teams Coordinator / Tight Ends Coach

Coach Kiefer returns for his 6th season coaching at IHS. Prior to that, he was a Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator for 6 seasons for Issaquah Youth Football. Coach Kiefer and his wife Keri have two children, Ragen a recent IHS grad and Issy football Alumni, and Maggie a current Issaquah High Cheer athlete.

 

Tommy T Louis III: Varsity Defensive Backs / JV Head Coach

Coach Louis is entering his 5 season at Issaquah High School where he will be coaching the Varsity Defensive Backs and be the JV Head Coach. Coach Louis played football at Spokane Fall CC and Central Washington University. He has coached for 11 seasons in the KingCo. Coach and his wife Leslie have two sons, Taylor and Tre and he enjoys golf, music, fishing and coaching. He is guided by the quote “Attitude reflects leadership”.

 

Karl Newberry: Assistant Defensive Backs / Head of Operations

Coach Newberry graduated from Oak Harbor High School where he was a four-year letterman for varsity soccer, as well as the Wildcat football team, where he contributed as safety, punter, and kicker. Additionally, Coach Karl has been actively involved in the Issaquah Youth Football community, coaching there for six years prior to joining the Issaquah High coaching staff in 2019.

One of Coach Newberry’s most memorable coaching moments came during an Issy JV youth game against 5-Star at Pop Keeney stadium, when, with no time left on the clock, a Hail Mary pass was caught and run into the end zone for a game-winning touchdown.  And, of course, the 2019 win against Skyline to reclaim the coal bucket was quite memorable, as well. 

When not coaching, Karl enjoys skiing, fishing, riding motorcycles, and boating with his family.

 

Michael Collier: Defensive Line

Coach Collier is entering his 5th season with Issaquah High Football. Coach Collier grew up in Maryland and was a 4 year starter at Towson University (2x All Conference Selection). Coach Collier and his wife Kristen have two children and spend their time with their dog and horses. Coach recently earned a Doctorate of Forensic Science from Oklahoma State University. This will be his 5th season working with the defensive line athletes, and he is excited to see the team continue to grow and move forward!

Robert Polk: Running backs / JV Offensive Coordinator

Coach Polk moved here from Texas in 2022 with his family to take an Assistant Football Coach position. This year, he is working with the Running Backs. Coach Polk is also a UNS for IHS and an Assistant Coach for the Girl's Basketball and Track program. Coach Polk was a multi-sport athlete in high school and was recruited to play at the NJCAA D1 level. His experience with student-athletes began in 2015. Coach Polk's background is in Kinesiology and Sports Management. 

Coach Kaitlin Shaw: Academic Coordinator

Coach Kaitlin Shaw is entering their second year as the Academic Coordinator for the Issaquah Football program. They are also an On-Time Graduation Specialist at Issaquah High School. This is their 10th year in the Issaquah School District.

She and her husband Zach live in Carnation with their two kids and their dog, Murphy. Their son, Lee is 5 and heading to kindergarten next year at Carnation Elementary, and their daughter Mavis is 3 and will continue at Spanish immersion preschool this year. As Academic Coordinator, they work to make sure our student-athletes stay on track so that they can be successful both in the classroom and on the field all season. Coach Shaw is excited to see what our team can accomplish this season!

Logan Black: Offensive Line Coach
This is Coach Black’s first year coaching at Issaquah High School. Coach Black comes to Issaquah High after playing on the offensive line at Pacific Lutheran University for 4 years. He and his wife Alex have a Boxer named Goose and are excited to join the Eagle Family!

Jacob King: Wide Receivers

This is Coach King’s 2nd year coaching at Issaquah High School. Originally from Port Townsend, WA he was lucky enough to be recruited to play football at Pacific Lutheran University, where he earned a computer science degree and met his Fiancé. They moved to Issaquah and have been helping out at IHS for the last two seasons. Coach King was the C-Team Defensive Coordinator last year and this year is helping out as a Varsity Wide Receiver Coach.
 

Thomas Meaney: Game-day Operations

Coach Meaney graduated from Limon High School in Limon, Colorado in 2004 where he lettered in football and wrestling, and was a member of the 2003 State Championship Football team. He first coached wrestling at Jefferson High School in Edgewater, CO as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2011 and 2012 seasons before serving in the Army from 2013-2016. After leaving the Army, Coach Meaney returned to college and graduated from Grand Canyon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. He joined the IHS coaching staff in 2021 as a volunteer coach, where he primarily worked as an Offensive Line Assistant with the Froshmore team. In 2022, he moved to the defensive side of the ball as a Defensive Line Assistant, primarily working with the Froshmore/JV teams. This season, Coach Meaney's focus will be on Game-day Operations.

Robert Stepan: Defensive Line

Coach Stepan is returning after almost 20 years to Coaching here at Issaquah HS. He is happily married to his wife Maureen (17 years together!). They have two boys - Chase (14) incoming freshmen at IHS and & Owen (12) will be a 7th grader at IMS. Coach Stepan is a Health and Fitness Teacher in the Kent SD (for the last 22yrs) at Meridian Middle School. Coach Stepan brings 15 years of high school football coaching experience, plus 20 years of high school track coaching experience to the staff. Coach is excited to be back here at Issy HS and to work with these players in their quest of building a powerhouse program here.

Ian Bachman: Assistant Offensive Line

Coach Bachman grew up in Maple Valley, Washington and graduated from Tahoma High School in 2008. He was a 3-year letterman, playing offensive line and linebacker. He then went to Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington where he earned his Bachelors in Mathematics and Secondary Education. He is in his 11th year of teaching at Issaquah High School and his 9th year coaching. In his career, he has been the JV Head Coach, Offensive Line Coach, and Linebackers Coach. This year he is assisting with the offensive line.

Reece Wonio: Froshmore Team Head Coach / Tight Ends

Coach Wonio is entering his second season with Issaquah High School Football where he leads the Frosh level offense and coaches the tight end group. This is also his second year of coaching football overall, and he looks to continue to grow and improve his knowledge and coaching of the game with the amazing coaching staff and players at Issaquah High School.
